Kyle Orton didn’t get off to a great start with the Denver Broncos — at least in the eyes of the fans. When Orton became a Bronco on April 2, he instantly had something to prove, since he was acquired in the trade that sent young, Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler to Chicago.

Then he was booed by the home fans during a intrasquad scrimmage. And then he threw three interceptions in his preseason debut.

Through it all, the Broncos never lost faith.

“I know there was a lot made out of our first preseason game and everything, but just looking back, I am happy that (head coach Josh McDaniels) stuck with me and had confidence in me,” Orton said. “That obviously does a lot for a quarterback.”

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy juggled his lineup Sunday with Phillies left-hander J.A. Happ on the mound instead of Pedro Martinez.

Tracy benched All-Star right fielder Brad Hawpe, who has slumped over the second half of the season, and replaced him with Ryan Spilborghs for Game 3, which was bumped back a night because of a snowstorm.

Tracy also moved catcher Yorvit Torrealba up two spots to fifth in the order, hoping to put his hottest bat behind Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki, who have yet to get into an offensive groove in this best-of-five series.

Torrealba, a career .255 hitter, said he had never batted fifth in the order.

“It was interesting, finding out in our (physical) testing before the season, I actually got taller. Now I’m 6-3 and a quarter, up from 6-3 even,” Wolski, 23, said. “I’m still kind of growing into my body.”

And, Wolski believes his horizons have expanded during the past year. Despite being the best shootout scorer in the NHL, it was a bad time for Wolski in 2008-09. Despite playing more, his scoring numbers regressed from the year before. He had 42 points, down from 48, and he finished a minus-13, down from a plus-10.

Rather than shrug it off, Wolski sat down and considered seriously the question of how he could improve. One way, Wolski concluded, was to work out harder than he ever had and to start eating better. Another was to embrace the idea of going back to left wing and using his improved physique to be tougher in front of the net.

Click here to read the full article – By Adrian Dater of Denver Post

Brandon Marshall insists he's comfortable with the Denver Broncos' playbook and that his surgically repaired hip is no longer a concern.
The mercurial wide receiver said he doesn't know why he isn't playing more, yet he's willing to accept his role, whatever it might be.

"I think I'm good enough to be out there," Marshall said. "It doesn't matter what I think. All I can do is embrace it."

Marshall was more forthcoming Wednesday than he has been in a while, responding to questions rather than dodging them with cliches and one-liners.

Yet Marshall made it clear that he doesn't want to keep harping on his eventful offseason, when he asked for a trade and skipped almost all of the Broncos' workouts while rehabilitating his hip, protesting his contract or serving a suspension for insubordination.
