Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy juggled his lineup Sunday with Phillies left-hander J.A. Happ on the mound instead of Pedro Martinez.

Tracy benched All-Star right fielder Brad Hawpe, who has slumped over the second half of the season, and replaced him with Ryan Spilborghs for Game 3, which was bumped back a night because of a snowstorm.

Tracy also moved catcher Yorvit Torrealba up two spots to fifth in the order, hoping to put his hottest bat behind Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki, who have yet to get into an offensive groove in this best-of-five series.

Torrealba, a career .255 hitter, said he had never batted fifth in the order.

Ryan Spilborghs watched the flight of the ball as he ran to first base, but once it landed into the Rockies bullpen, he raised his arms in celebration and jetted around the bases — literally. After rounding halfway past third base, he threw his helmet off toward the Rockies dugout and jumped on home plate into the waiting arms of his celebrating teammates.


Spilborghs hit the first walk-off grand slam in Rockies history, his second career grand slam and his first walk-off homer in the 14th inning to squeak by the Giants, 6-4, Monday in front of about half of the 27,670 paid fans who remained at Coors Field.

Rockies center fielder Ryan Spilborghs boils down his approach for functioning despite irregular playing time to always being ready. He needed to be almost from the start of Wednesday’s 10-4 victory over the Nationals.

Speedy leadoff man Nyjer Morgan had bunted for a single. Alberto Gonzalez knocked a hard single directly at Spilborghs in right field. Morgan headed for third, but Spilborghs nailed him with an accurate throw. Two batters into the game, and Spilborghs had turned it in the Rockies’ favor.
